Open House is a rare chance to see contemporary artworks in the setting of an artist’s home and garden close to the city centre. It is an artists’ initiative, aimed to coincide with Manchester International Festival (Jun 30th to July 2nd 2017) and showing a group of works on a garden theme as part of Old Trafford Open Gardens trail. Kate Davies, Sarah Feinmann, Maggie Hargreaves, Fiona Moate and other artists are showing a selection of work including photography, painting, collage, sculpture and installation much of it with a landscape and environmental theme. Inspired by the success of their Open House event last year, Kate Davies says: “We were keen to return to the domestic setting to showcase new works to coincide with the Old Trafford Open Gardens trail. We are also delighted to welcome several more artists " I made a tree sculpture from plastic bottles and packaging a piece of an old garden umbrella and a fallen branch. The sculpture featured in Love Earth Festival 2016 at Nuttall Park in Ramsbottom . The tree is about 12ft tall, very colourful and added a great 'festival feel' to the event along with the many stalls and activities. We had a great time The tree is making an appearance at Incredible Edible's event on Setember 3rd at the Eagle and Child New drawing, 'Shed', charcoal on paper, 220 x 140 cm ,2016
Shed brings together a variety of aspects to allotment gardens; a space of order, planning, competition and tradition, but also creative use and re-use of materials, a space to relax, exercise the body and mind, to experiment and to dream. A new exhibition opening on June 30th at Neo:Gallery27 in Bolton. The exhibition explores allotment gardens; the sites, the people and the wider environmental aspects surrounding food production. My new drawings prints and installation will be included. Come and see. The opening event is on July 2nd 2-4pm
My new exhibition explores our relationship with the outside world through immersive drawings, print and sculptural installation. Preview December 11th, 6.30-8.30 pm
Neoprintprize 2014Woohoo! My work Aspirational Living has been shortlisted for the Neoprintprize and will be shown in the exhibition at Neo:Gallery, Market Place, Bolton from August 28th until November 2nd. Our basic needs are food and shelter as for other animal species.
Humans have long felt the urge to decorate their homes with keepsakes and mementoes, but also to express their style and to display affluence. The decoration on the wasps’ nest has been hand block printed with lino in a similar way that wallpaper may be made for our use. Marketing and advertising encourages us to constantly change and renew furnishings etc keeping up with current trends. This also produces a huge consumption and waste cycle leading to landfill, energy usage and climate change issues which affect the other species existing alongside us. The delicacy of the wasps’ nests reflects the fragile balance of ecosystems, easily destroyed. (No wasps were harmed or unhoused in the making of this work) West Lancashire OpenVery happy to have this piece in the exhibition until September 3rd at Chapel Gallery, Ormskirk, Lancashire.
The paper is made from dandelions, the enemy of gardeners. I cut out the design from the formal gardens at Versailles and infilled the paths with graphite, the gun-metal shiny colouring referencing war. The work concerns the constant shift of boundaries between our activities and the natural world |
